Stanislas Wawrinka is looking forward to play in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. It’s going to be his first tournament of the new season and he is pretty excited about it. He is going to face some great players in that tournament and he wants to make a mark by performing well against them.
The last season had been pretty good for Wawrinka. He had beaten quite a few players who were ranked higher than him in the world rankings. His biggest victory of the season came in the US Open where he got better of the reigning champion and British superstar Andy Murray in the quarter final round. He was looking good to pull off another upset in the semi final round there as he had got Novak Djokovic under pressure at one point of time, but, he eventually lost that match in 5 sets. However, that was the best that he had played in a Grand Slam.
Wawrinka finished the season as one of the top 10 players in the world. It was probably the best season of his career.
Talking to the reporters yesterday about Mubadala World Tennis Championship, Wawrinka said, “I am going to start my season in Abu Dhabi and I really want to have a good time there. I have been there in the past once and it was a fantastic experience for me. So, I am excited about visiting that place again. Hopefully, I achieve some success there.”
“There will be quite a few quality players participating in that tournament and it’s actually good for the fans. They will get to see tennis of high standard.”
Wawrinka’s first match in Abu Dhabi will be against David Ferrer of Spain on 26th of this month.

Stanislas Wawrinka has been defeated by Novak Djokovic in the semi final round of the US Open. Djokovic won the match in five sets by 2-6, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
This is the 5th time that Djokovic has reached the title round here at Flushing Meadows.
It was a marathon contest and it took Djokovic more than 4 hours to pull it off.
In the post match interview, the world no. 1 said, “It was simply an awesome match and I am glad to be a part of it. Stan was superb right through. He must be given the credit for battling so hard.”
“I was struggling for rhythm at the start. Stan was playing with a lot of aggression and I was finding it really difficult. Fortunately, I managed to lift my game during the vital moments.”
When asked about that third game of the last set which ended in 20 odd minutes, Djokovic said, “It was a vital game and I knew that the guy who would lose that game was going to be under pressure. Unfortunately, I lost it and I was really gutted.”
On the other hand Wawrinka who was featuring in the semi final match of a Grand Slam for the first time was perplexed after losing such a close match. The Swiss no. 2 said, “It’s gutting to end up on the wrong side in these sorts of matches. I was so close, but, unfortunately, couldn’t get the desired result.”
“Overall, it was a great campaign for me. I was consistent and managed to beat some very good players in this tournament.”
It was Djokovic’s 15th clash against Wawrinka and he defeated the Swiss player for the 13th time.
In the final match, Djokovic will take on the Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal.
