Stanislas Wawrinka Bio

Stanislas Wawrinka is a Swiss tennis player. As his father is a German, he also holds German citizenship. He was born on March 28, 1985. He is 6 foot tall and lives in Saint Barthelemy in Switzerland. Wawrinka is currently at World No. 16 spot. He is best known for his powerful backhand play. He is considered as best performing on clay surfaced tennis courts. However, he has also given good results on hard surfaced courts too.

He is also a gold medalist at Olympics and runner up at ATP Masters in 2008. He is attracted to tennis from his childhood. He started taking part in international junior level events at the age of 14. He won the French Open Junior Championship 2003. At 15 he stopped going to school regularly as to give full time to the game. He was being coached by Dimitri Zavialoff, since he was 8 years old to July 2010.

Stanislas Wawrinka turned out to be a professional tennis player in 2002 at the age of 17.  He has produced good results in both singles and doubles events. The best year for Stanislas Wawrinka was 2008. As teamed up with the Swiss legendry player, Roger Federer, he got a Gold Medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics in men’s doubles category defeating Simon Aspelin and Thomas Johansson of Sweden in the finals. They also defeated the American twin brothers Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan in the same tournament. He also entered the finals of Masters Series tournament in Rome. But, he lost against Novak Djokovic of Serbia, the currently World No. 1 tennis player. But, he has defeated Novak Djokovic Croatian Open in 2006.

He also entered the fourth round of Us Open and was defeated by Andy Murray. Latterly, his partner, Roger Federer revenged by defeating Murray in the finals. He was given the 2008 Swiss Team of the Year Award with Roger Federer.

In 2007, he reached third round of the Australian Open Tournament and was defeated by Rafael Nadal. He has never defeated Rafael Nadal. He also lost to Nadal in the finals of Mercedes Cup same year. Wawrinka is a one time winner and one time runner up of Chennai Open. He is a four time runner up in doubles tournaments. Wawrinka is considered a best in single handed backhand play. He usually falters in main events due to his weakness in mental strength. The fact is that he has only won 3 out of 9 tournament finals. He often alloys with Roger Federer for double events.

Stanislas Wawrinka is married to Ilham Vuilloud. They got married in December 2009. His wife was pregnant at the time of marriage and gave birth to Wawrinka’s daughter named Alexia in February 2010. After living for one year with his wife, Stanislas Wawrinka separated with her on accounts to give more epoch to tennis. Wawrinka is a good friend of the British No. 1 Player, Andy Murray. Stanislas Wawrinka is amused with music and movies too.
