It would not be overly ambitious to say that Stanislas Wawrinka is the most in form player going around in the professional tennis arena at the moment. The way the 28 years old Swiss player is dominating his opponents is just incredible.
In the ongoing BNP Paribas Open, while the other top players had had problems in their first match, Wawrinka just took his opponent Andreas Seppi apart and qualified for the third round in style. He just lost a couple of games in the entire match which suggests what kind of mood he was in. The match didn’t last for even an hour. It was over in just about 45 minutes or so.
2014 is proving to be an absolutely dream year for Wawrinka. He has not put a foot wrong this year. He has hardly seemed to be out of nick in any of his matches and it’s that consistency which has helped him in getting to his career best ranking. He is the no. 3 player in the world at this point of time.
Talking to the reporters at the end of the match against Seppi, Wawrinka said, “I have been playing with aggression this season and that’s helping me.”
“As far as today’s match is concerned, everything went perfectly. I would like to keep it up.”
Wawrinka must know that he is not going to have things this easy in his next match as the player that he is going to face has also been in terrific form this season.
In the third round at Indian Wells, the Swiss no. 1 will face the South African player Kevin Anderson who has had a 13-4 record in 2014. He might be a bit low in the rankings, but, he can give Wawrinka some fight in this kind of form; that’s for sure.
Stanislas Wawrinka is looking forward to play in the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. It’s going to be his first tournament of the new season and he is pretty excited about it. He is going to face some great players in that tournament and he wants to make a mark by performing well against them.
The last season had been pretty good for Wawrinka. He had beaten quite a few players who were ranked higher than him in the world rankings. His biggest victory of the season came in the US Open where he got better of the reigning champion and British superstar Andy Murray in the quarter final round. He was looking good to pull off another upset in the semi final round there as he had got Novak Djokovic under pressure at one point of time, but, he eventually lost that match in 5 sets. However, that was the best that he had played in a Grand Slam.
Wawrinka finished the season as one of the top 10 players in the world. It was probably the best season of his career.
Talking to the reporters yesterday about Mubadala World Tennis Championship, Wawrinka said, “I am going to start my season in Abu Dhabi and I really want to have a good time there. I have been there in the past once and it was a fantastic experience for me. So, I am excited about visiting that place again. Hopefully, I achieve some success there.”
“There will be quite a few quality players participating in that tournament and it’s actually good for the fans. They will get to see tennis of high standard.”
Wawrinka’s first match in Abu Dhabi will be against David Ferrer of Spain on 26th of this month.
