4:53 That shot may be the hardest hit of the day. 7:54 that forehand was
sensational too!
The Swiss Champs played like they did in the gold medal match 2008
absolutely brilliant! Love it! Congrats guys well deserved!
I hope Roger and Stan double more they’re an incredible team…maybe if and
when they retire in singles they could team up!
There was a discussion about how fast Stan’s return on 4:53 was.
I recorded the video – put it into Premiere Pro and looked at the exact
frames:
From the moment when Stan hit the ball to the exact point when the ball hit
the ground = 15 frames, on a 30 second video that means it travelled half a
second.
Stan hit the ball about 30 centimeters inside the baseline – the ball also
landed about 30 centimeters behind the service line so we can pretty much
say that it travelled about 18,3 meters (60feet).
For people interested in the courts dimensions 😀 From baseline to net =
11,89 meters (39 feet) + from net to service line = 6,4 meters (21feet)
That makes 18,3 meters or 60 feet.
The ball was hit at about 1,70 meters height so the total distance
travelled in 1/2 second was 20 meters (65,6 feet)
The return was 89 mph or 144 kmh fast
That shot at 7:54 was amazing and the inside out by stan at 5-5 was so
powerful. Roger playing better tennis now. Stan put on a show in that last
game. I swear if these guys had played doubles all the time…
Fed play better as the match go on, you cannot blame him,..fit or not, i
think his back gives him pressure not to play freely, i love how Stan
strong mentally now because he’s a great player
Now I know why Switzerland never managed to win the Davis Cup before,
because there are no Stan and Fed in their current forms in the team. Fed
alone cannot carry the entire team even if he’s called the GOAT. Stan did
really well to improve his game that even if he’ll always be overshadowed
by Fed, he’s done things other players can only dream about like winning a
GS, and being the number one Swiss player for a while. These two literally
beat the entire French team by themselves. Kudos to them. I’m a Fed fan
through and through but Wawrinka did amazing by helping to win that singles
match against Tsonga. Had he lost that one and had to play Monfils, who
knew what would’ve happened because Monfils is in an amazing form
Wanna talk about talent? Forehand return at 7:51 !! Notice Federer’a
position when he hits the return (half-way between the baseline and the
service line!), his racket-head speed with almost no preparation for the
shot, and the power of the shot! Benneteau barely had time to reset himself
after serving, only to see that missile passing Gasquet, who was thinking
“ohh…. wait a sec….what just happened .?!”

Why would they play Gasquet in doubles and not Roger-Vasselin, Benneteau’s
doubles partner in the WTF’s?!?

I’m amazed by what a great player Wawrinka has become, he’s the real deal.
Great to see Switzerland win a Davis Cup.
