Stanislas Wawrinka has secured his place in the second round of the French Open after a nail biting victory over unheralded Flavio Cipolla. The Italian new comer looked strong, but was unable to hold back the strength and quality of Wawrinka play as the twenty seven year old Swiss number two fired to a two set lead winning 6-3, 6-3. However the Young Italian fought back in the third set securing a 4-6 and went on to secure his second set of the game with a 3-6 victory in the fourth set. Unfortunately for Cipolla, the world number twenty Wawrinka came back strong to finish the game with a fifth set victory finishing 6-2.
Wawrinka best performance at the French open was a fourth round exit in 2010 and in last year’s competition is hoping to eclipse these efforts by reaching the business end of this year’s competition. However after a slip up in his first round, which in truth should have been a bread and butter victory for the Swiss, this is looking doubtful. 2012 has been a solid if uninspiring year for Wawrinka, who at twenty seven would be looking to hit the peak of his game, but with so many quality players in men’s tennis at the moment, the chances of Wawrinka gaining any ground in grand slam tournaments look few and far between. The Swiss number tow would really need to play well above himself to have any chance of offering any real possibility of challenging the big players.
Outside of open tennis Wawrinka will be more concerned about adding to his gold medal achieved in Beijing earned with fellow countryman and current world number 3 Roger Federer, by achieving a second doubles victory at this year’s London Olympics.
Stanislas Wawrinka has a German background while he himself is a Swiss tennis player. Wawrinka, unlike others prefers playing on a clay surface and has a kind of advantage when he plays with his backhand as he considers backhand strokes to be his power.

Wawrinka was finally defeated by Ronald Young in the second round of the 2011 U.S Open.
A different kind of strange news popped up in the year 2011 in the month of September when he mentioned that he will be no longer under the assistance of his coach – Lundgron. He had taken a decision that he would play the rest of the season without any assistance or without any coach. Coming to the 2011 Swiss Indoors Basel Wawrinka made it to the semi finals defeating Florian Mayer but finally succumbed to Roger Federer giving Federer the title. Wawrinka also played bif matches like the Davis Cup in the year 2009 where the result was tyed with Italy but the interesting part being that he had defeated Andreas Sippi in the first match itself.

Abierto Mexicano Telcel finished the 4 tournament “Golden Swing” through Latin America.
Fernando Verdaso, the former world number seven is looking for his 6th career win on ATP World Tour. Fernando grabbed two titles in the year 2010 and accordingly accomplished his career’s highest ranking of world number seven, but his progress was stopped by inconsistency and injuries. Fernando has an average 7 – 4 win – loss record for this season till now and he needs some good wins in his file got get his form back. Seeded 8th in this event, Verdasco topped his two-time champion and his compatriot Nicolas Almagro with a 6 – 4, 7 – 6 (5) win on Thursday and went into the semi-final of this ATP World Tour 500 championship.

The Swiss ace has the ability to take a hop but he requirements to win a some titles to make his presence felt on ATP World Tour.

Wawrinka will be left to reflect on his performance at the Australian Open this year with mixed feelings. He progressed into the third round of the tournament, beating Benoit Paire in the first round and completing a four set victory over Marcus Baghdatis before falling against the in-form Spaniard Nicolas Almagro. The Swiss competitor was seeded number 21 and in the end couldn’t quite improve on the predictions by making the last 16.
The number 10 seed proved too strong for Stanislas, and took the match in straight sets, although Wawrinka only relinquished the first set after a tie break in which he should have done better than to collect a measly two points. The match ended 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, 6-4, and Wawrinka will look back on the match and perhaps point to the huge 49 unforced errors as the main reason for defeat, but credit must be given to Almagro who kept it tight and played some superb tennis in the second and third sets.
The Spaniard had to deal with the pressure of a terrible head-to-head record against the Swiss number 2, but this hardly seemed to register in his mind on the day, and he will go into future clashes with confidence high. Before the third round encounter the record was 5-1 in Wawrinka’s favour, and the two players also competed together as juniors, so they knew each other’s game well enough not to face any surprises.
Despite his average performance in Melbourne this year, Wawrinka’s career is slowly improving, and during the past 2 years he has reached an impressive 5 quarterfinals of major competitions along the way, as well as securing titles at Chennai and Casablanca at smaller events. He has also taken some big scalps, defeating the world number 6 Berdych last year in Chennai, and of course Andy Murray at the 2010 US Open. At 26 years of age he still lacks the breakthrough into the top ten, but still has plenty of time and the necessary talent to do so.
The 17th ranked tennis player in the world Stanislas Wawrinka has stated that his fellow Swiss Roger Federer is by far the greatest ever player to have graced the tennis court and it would be very difficult for anyone to overtake the records of the classy Swiss Master. Although Wawrinka did have some decent results in the 2011 season, it was not good enough for him back home as the results were compared to the achievements of his compatriot, who according to Wawrinka, is miles ahead of everyone at the moment.
Wawrinka said that no matter where he went, his result were compared with what FedEx has achieved and that is very discomforting for the 26 year old, and has compared his situation with that of David Ferrer. According to Wawrinka, no matter what Ferrer does on court, he will still be overshadowed by the muscleman from Majorca and the same thing can be said about him as well and that is why, Stanislas Wawrinka says that he will never be given his due.
However, Wawrinka says that he has immense respect for his countryman, who has been his opponent on the court as well as his team mate in the Davis Cup and he believes that there is no model professional other than R-Fed. He said that he had the best season of his career by far in 2011 but he still had to be overshadowed by the legendary Swiss Master.
However, the best thing is that Stanislas Wawrinka does not hold any grudges against his fellow countryman and believes that he was just born in the wrong era.
